Project in development
EWB-WWU is starting a project in Arunachal Pradesh in the Himalayas of northeastern India. Arunachal Pradesh is the northeasternmost state in India. On the north it is bordered by Tibet (China), on the west by Bhutan, on the east by Myanmar (Burma), and on the south by the India states of Assam and Nagaland. The geography of Arunachal is dominated by the eastern Himalayas, which form the border between India and China. Until annexation by the British in 1858, Arunachal was a part of Tibet. The population of Arunachal is still largely ethnic Tibetan, so the people retain cultural and religious ties with Tibet. The People's Republic of China claims part of Arunachal, although India retains control over the area. Arunachal is one of the least populous states in India. It is also among the least developed, due to its rugged terrain and isolation from the rest of India.
EWB-WWU is planning on constructing a clean, enclosed water supply system for the town of Dahung. The project committee for India is currently working on the 501 New Project Application for submittal to EWB-USA.
